How do I set up a suitable workplace for a successful start to the semester?

As an essential technical equipment, a personal computer (PC, notebook, tablet) with a stable internet connection is required. A microphone, loudspeaker, and camera should be available (either integrated or connected externally).

Free parking is available in Willy-Andreas-Allee, but is limited. We highly recommend reaching the campus by bicycle or public transport.

How do I get to the university by public transport?

The nearest stops are Europaplatz/Postgalerie or Kustakademie/Hochschule. In Karlsruhe, the Karlsruher Verkehrsverbund KVV is responsible for the public transportation network with bus and train lines. Information about the line network, timetable and tickets can be found at:

Insurance

How do I insure myself?

It is essential to have health insurance (statutory or private) and recommended liability insurance. You can be insured free of charge in both cases via family insurance up to a certain age. After that, student insurance is often possible at a special rate at the health insurance companies. For activities causally related to studies, accident and liability insurance (Unfall- und Haftpflichtversicherung) is available through the Studierendenwerk Karlsruhe.

Financing

How can I finance my education?

On average, students in Karlsruhe who live in their apartment or a shared apartment or dormitory room, need between 800 and 900 € per month. Successful Startup program

How and when can I register for the program 'Having a successful start'?

Students in the Bachelor’s degree programs in Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, Automotive Technology, International IT Business, Mechatronics, and Business Information Systems have the opportunity to participate in the Successful Startup program. The start of studies can be optimally supported by additional tutorials and courses and a division of the study content.

The registration period is usually announced by e-mail within the first two weeks after the start of the semester. Registration prior to the specific pre-assessment test is not possible.

Regulations

How do my studies work, and where can I find answers to questions about study and examination law such as 'pushing exams' and 'compulsory attendance'?

In your curriculum and examination regulations (SPO), you will find answers to questions about study and examination law. The SPO part A is relevant for all study programs, and each study program has ist own SPO parts B and C.
